Ingredients
Meat
- 1 1/2 pounds ground pork, chicken, or turkey (90-93% lean)
Seasonings & Flavorings
- 3 teaspoons minced garlic or 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ to 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper chili flakes (to taste)
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- Optional: 2 sage leaves, chopped
- 2 teaspoons maple syrup or raw honey
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the ground meat with minced garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, thyme, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, kosher salt, black pepper, chopped sage (if using), and maple syrup or raw honey. Use your hands to blend everything evenly.
- Shape Patties: Form the sausage mixture into patties about 3 to 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick, ensuring they are evenly sized for consistent cooking.
- Prepare for Cooking: Place the formed patties on a parchment paper-lined baking tray to prevent sticking and maintain their shape before cooking.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking oil to avoid sticking. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for best results.
- Cook Patties: Arrange 4-5 patties in the preheated air fryer basket, ensuring they are spaced apart for proper air circulation.
- Air Fry: Cook the sausage patties for 12-15 minutes on manual mode, flipping halfway through cooking. Check for doneness starting at 10-12 minutes by ensuring the internal temperature reaches at least 160°F (71°C).
- Keep Warm: Remove the cooked patties and place them on a clean plate, covering them to keep warm while cooking the remaining batches.
- Repeat Cooking: Continue to air fry the remaining patties using the same method until all are cooked through.
- Serve: Serve the sausage patties warm with your favorite sauce or breakfast sides.
Notes
- To check doneness, use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature has reached 160°F for safety.
- Sausage patties can be made ahead and reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
- Adjust chili flakes and cayenne according to your preferred spice level.
- Using lean ground turkey or chicken will reduce fat content but may require careful monitoring to avoid drying out the patties.
