Ingredients
Turkey Burgers
- 1 pound lean ground turkey (93/7)
- 1 apple, shredded
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
- Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
- 4 buns, toasted
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
Maple Dijon Mustard
- 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
Instructions
- Make the turkey patties: In a large bowl, use your hands to combine the ground turkey, shredded apple, green onions, dijon mustard, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix gently, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep the burgers tender. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty.
- Cook the burgers: Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for about 4-6 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and no longer pink in the center.
- Melt the cheese: During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cover the skillet with a lid or foil to help the cheese melt evenly.
- Prepare the maple dijon mustard and buns: While the burgers are cooking, whisk together the dijon mustard and maple syrup in a small bowl. Slice an additional apple if desired for topping and toast the burger buns until golden.
- Assemble and serve: Place each cooked burger on a toasted bun, top with slices of fresh apple, and drizzle or spread the maple dijon mustard over the top. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use a sharp cheddar cheese for a stronger cheese flavor.
- Make sure not to overmix the turkey mixture to avoid dense burgers.
- Using a nonstick skillet or well-seasoned cast iron will help prevent sticking.
- For a sweeter variation, add a little cinnamon to the turkey mixture along with the apple.
- These burgers can also be grilled if preferred, cook over medium heat for similar timing.
