Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 (8-ounce) can crescent rolls
Sausages
- 1 (14-ounce) package cocktail-size sausage links
Toppings
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
Serve With
- Ketchup, for serving
- Stone ground mustard, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and position the oven rack in the center. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into all 8 triangles along the existing perforations. Then cut each of these triangles lengthwise into thirds to create smaller, narrow triangles suitable for wrapping around each sausage.
- Wrap Sausages: Place one cocktail sausage at the wide end of a dough triangle. Gently roll the dough around the sausage to fully enclose it. Continue this process until all sausages are wrapped and placed evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
- Apply Egg Wash and Seasoning: Brush the tops of all wrapped sausages with the beaten egg to help them develop a glossy, golden finish during baking. Then sprinkle half of the pigs in a blanket with everything bagel seasoning and the other half with coarse sea salt for added flavor and texture variety.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the pigs in a blanket for 12 to 15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
- Serve: Remove from the oven, transfer to a serving plate, and serve hot with ketchup and stone ground mustard on the side for dipping.
Notes
- To prevent the sausages from unrolling during baking, make sure the dough is wrapped tightly around the sausage ends.
- Using parchment paper minimizes sticking and simplifies cleanup.
- For a spicy twist, substitute the everything bagel seasoning with chili flakes or smoked paprika.
- These can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a couple of extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
- Ensure the oven is fully preheated to achieve a flaky and golden crust.
