A delicious and easy-to-make Chicken Philly Cheesesteak featuring tender chicken strips sautéed with sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese served in warm hoagie rolls. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal in just 30 minutes.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Sandwich

  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 5-6 slices provolone cheese

Chicken

  • 1 pound chicken breasts or thighs, cut into thin strips
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Vegetables

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 white or yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: In a bowl, season the thinly sliced chicken strips with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Toss well to ensure all pieces are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is browned and fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside, keeping it warm.
  3. Cook the vegetables: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms, bell pepper strips, and onions. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant and vegetables are tender.
  4. Combine chicken and vegetables: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Add cheese: Lay slices of provolone cheese over the chicken and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Cover the skillet loosely with a lid and allow the cheese to melt for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches: Scoop the cheesy chicken and vegetable mixture into the hoagie rolls. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken breasts with thighs for a juicier result.
  • Feel free to add extra vegetables like jalapeños or spinach for variation.
  • For a lower-fat version, reduce the butter or omit it and use cooking spray instead.
  • Use provolone cheese or try other melting cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar as preferred.
  • To toast the rolls, briefly place them in a hot oven or skillet before assembling.
