Cinnamon Roasted Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes is a quick and flavorful side dish featuring tender sweet potatoes glazed in a sticky, sweet cinnamon and subtly spicy honey sauce. Perfectly roasted to bring out natural sweetness and a hint of warmth from cinnamon and nutmeg, this recipe combines simple ingredients for an impressive addition to any meal.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Sweet Potatoes

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, unpeeled and diced (about 1¼ pounds)

Glaze and Seasonings

  • 1/4 cup avocado oil, or extra light olive oil
  • 1/4 cup garlic hot honey, regular hot honey or plain honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine salt, more or less to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, for serving
  • 1 to 2 pinches red pepper flakes, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃) to prepare for roasting.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Add the diced sweet potatoes to a lined, rimmed metal baking pan to ensure easy cleanup and even roasting.
  3. Mix Glaze: Drizzle the sweet potatoes with avocado oil and honey, then sprinkle evenly with ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and fine salt. Toss well to coat all the pieces evenly with the flavorful mixture.
  4. Roast the Sweet Potatoes: Arrange the sweet potatoes in a single layer in the pan. Roast in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes until fork tender. Make sure to rotate the pan halfway through roasting to ensure even cooking.
  5. Serve: Transfer the roasted sweet potatoes to a serving dish. Drizzle with some of the hot honey glaze remaining in the pan. Finally, top with freshly ground black pepper and a pinch or two of red pepper flakes for a subtle spicy kick and added flavor.

Notes

  • You can use regular honey or garlic hot honey depending on your preference for spice and flavor depth.
  • Adjust the amount of salt according to your taste.
  • For a milder spice, reduce or omit the red pepper flakes.
  • Using a rimmed baking pan helps prevent any honey glaze from spilling in the oven.
  • Ensure the sweet potatoes are diced evenly for uniform roasting.
