Classic blondies are a rich and buttery dessert bar with a soft, chewy texture. Made with melted butter, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla, these blondies can be customized with your favorite mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts. Perfectly baked to a golden finish, they make an easy and crowd-pleasing treat ideal for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 30-35 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Blondie Base

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) salted butter, melted
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed (can substitute with light brown sugar)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, scooped
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Optional Mix-ins

  • Heaping ½ cup mix-ins such as butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃). Spray an 8”x8” baking dish with non-stick spray and optionally line it with parchment paper to help with easy removal after baking.
  2. Combine Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until thoroughly combined and smooth.
  3. Add Egg and Vanilla: Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture is evenly blended and slightly fluffy.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to the wet mixture. Stir gently until just combined without overmixing. Fold in half of the optional mix-ins if using.
  5. Transfer Batter to Pan: Pour the blondie batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the surface with a silicone spatula or spoon. Sprinkle the remaining mix-ins evenly over the top.
  6. Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Avoid overbaking to keep the blondies soft and chewy.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the blondies to cool completely on a wire rack; cooling overnight is best for texture and ease of cutting. Once cooled, remove from the pan, cut into bars or triangles, and serve.

Notes

  • Mix-ins such as butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts can be added to customize your blondies.
  • Do not overbake, or the blondies will become dry and lose their chewy texture.
  • Lining the baking pan with parchment paper makes it easier to lift the blondies out for cutting.
  • For best texture, cool completely before slicing; overnight cooling improves consistency.
