Ingredients
Juice
- 20 Key limes
- 3 cups (750 ml) water
Mix-ins
- 1 13.5-oz can (400 ml) coconut milk (or 1 whole fresh coconut to make your own coconut milk)
- 1 cup (300 ml) sweetened condensed milk
Optional for garnish
- 3 tbsp shredded coconut
- Additional sweetened condensed milk for glass rim (about 2 tbsp)
Instructions
- Juice the limes: Roll the limes firmly on the counter with the palm of your hands to release more juice. Slice each in half and juice by hand, citrus press, or juicer. Strain the extracted juice through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds and pulp.
- Combine ingredients: Pour the strained lime juice, water, coconut milk, and sweetened condensed milk into a pitcher. Mix thoroughly to combine, scraping the bottom to incorporate any condensed milk that settles.
- Chill and serve: Refrigerate the mixture until cold. Before serving, stir well to recombine any separated ingredients. Serve over ice for best refreshment.
- Decorate the glass (optional): Lightly coat the rim of each serving glass with a thin layer of sweetened condensed milk, being careful to avoid drips. Pour shredded coconut into a small dish and dip the glass rims into it to create a coconut-coated garnish.
Notes
- Rolling the limes before juicing increases juice yield.
- Using fresh coconut milk adds a fresher coconut flavor compared to canned but requires extra preparation.
- This drink tastes best served chilled over ice.
- Sweetened condensed milk adds both sweetness and creaminess; adjust amount to preference for sweetness.
- The coconut garnish on the glass rim adds an attractive visual and texture contrast.
