This creamy pesto sauce is a quick and delicious blend of fresh basil, parsley, parmesan, toasted nuts, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and water. Blended until smooth and creamy, it’s perfect for elevating pasta, roasted vegetables, sandwiches, eggs, and more with its rich, fresh flavor and velvety texture.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 1 ¾ cups of pesto sauce

Ingredients

Fresh Herbs

  • 1 ½ cups fresh basil (packed)
  • ⅓ cup fresh parsley (packed)

Cheese

  • 1 cup grated parmesan

Nuts and Garlic

  • ½ cup toasted nuts (pine nuts, walnuts, or almonds recommended)
  • 1-2 cloves garlic (start with 1 clove)

Seasoning and Liquids

  • ½ – ¾ teaspoon sea salt (start with ½ teaspoon)
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Add Ingredients: Place 1 ½ cups fresh basil, ⅓ cup fresh parsley, 1 cup grated parmesan, ½ cup toasted nuts, 1-2 cloves garlic, ½ – ¾ teaspoon sea salt, juice from 1 lemon, ½ cup olive oil, and ¼ cup water into your blender.
  2. Blend: Blend all ingredients on high speed until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well combined.
  3. Taste and Adjust: Taste the pesto and add additional salt or garlic if needed. For a thinner consistency, add a splash more water and blend again until desired texture is reached.

Notes

  • Toast nuts such as pine nuts, walnuts, or almonds lightly to enhance flavor before blending.
  • Adjust garlic quantity according to your taste preference to avoid overpowering the pesto.
  • For a vegan version, substitute parmesan with nutritional yeast.
  • Store leftover pesto in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • This sauce pairs well with pasta, roasted vegetables, sandwiches, grilled meats, eggs, and as a dip.
