Ingredients
Salad Ingredients
- 2 English cucumbers, thinly sliced, peeled and deseeded if desired
- 1 teaspoon salt + more to taste
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
Dressing Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 3 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning (includes sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic, onion, and salt)
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper + more to taste
Instructions
- Salt the cucumbers: Toss the thinly sliced cucumbers with 1 teaspoon of salt in a colander set over the sink or a bowl. Let them rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour to draw out excess moisture, which keeps the salad crisp.
- Rinse and dry cucumbers: After resting, gently rinse the cucumbers under cold water to remove excess salt. Squeeze them gently with your hands or pat dry with paper towels to remove any remaining moisture.
- Prepare the dressing: In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, everything bagel seasoning, white vinegar, and ground black pepper. Whisk until well blended, creating a creamy and flavorful dressing.
- Combine and season: Add the drained cucumbers and thinly sliced red onion to the dressing. Mix thoroughly to coat all ingredients. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
- Chill and serve: You can serve the salad immediately or refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld and intensify.
Notes
- This salad is best served chilled and consumed within 24 hours for optimal freshness.
- You can adjust the amount of everything bagel seasoning to your taste preference.
- Using English cucumbers helps reduce bitterness and seeds, but other cucumbers may be substituted with peeling and deseeding.
