This Easy Orange Chicken Skillet is a quick and flavorful dinner featuring bite-sized chicken pieces coated in a light flour mixture and tossed in a zesty orange sauce with garlic, ginger, and chili. Serve with rice, quinoa, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Chicken:
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup gluten-free flour or arrowroot powder
  • Sea salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • Sauce:
  • 3 fresh garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 red chili, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos, Bragg's liquid aminos, or low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • To garnish:
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Sesame seeds
  • Green onions, sliced
  • Lime and orange wedges

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken dry and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Place chicken in a large bowl and toss with flour, sea salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken in a single layer and cook 8–10 minutes, until browned on all sides. Remove and keep warm.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté garlic, ginger, and chili for 1 minute.
  5. Add orange juice, orange zest, apple cider vinegar, coconut aminos, and honey. Whisk to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
  6. Once sauce begins to simmer and thicken slightly, return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat. Heat through.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and lime or orange wedges. Serve with cauliflower rice, brown rice, quinoa, or steamed broccoli.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, leave some chili seeds in or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Ensure chicken pieces are dry before coating to get a nice browning.
  • Coconut aminos can be substituted with low sodium soy sauce if preferred.
  • Adjust sweetness or acidity by modifying honey or vinegar amounts according to taste.
