Ingredients
Salmon Patties
- 14-15 oz canned salmon or salmon in packets (well drained)
- 1 medium yellow onion (1 cup, finely diced)
- 1/2 red bell pepper (seeded and diced)
- 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs
- 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic salt (or substitute with 1/2 tsp fine sea salt and 1/4 tsp garlic powder)
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup parsley (finely minced)
For Cooking
- 2 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter (divided)
Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: Set a medium skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter. Add the finely diced yellow onion and diced red bell pepper. Sauté for 7 to 9 minutes until the vegetables are golden and softened, then remove from heat.
- Prepare Salmon Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the well-drained flaked canned salmon, sautéed onion and bell pepper, Panko bread crumbs, lightly beaten egg, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, freshly ground black pepper, and finely chopped parsley. Stir everything together thoroughly. Then, shape the mixture into patties approximately 2 inches wide and 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick, each about a heaping tablespoonful.
- Pan-Fry Salmon Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter in a clean non-stick pan over medium heat until hot. Place salmon patties in a single layer and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they achieve a golden brown color and are cooked through. Reduce heat if patties brown too quickly. Remove cooked patties onto a paper towel-lined plate. Repeat the frying process with the remaining oil, butter, and salmon patties.
Notes
- Ensure the canned salmon is well drained to avoid soggy patties.
- If needed, adjust seasoning to taste, especially garlic salt and pepper.
- You can substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
- Serve patties with tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
- To keep patties warm, place them on a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F) while frying the rest.
