Frosted Pumpkin Cookies are soft, fluffy pumpkin spice cookies topped with a rich cream cheese frosting. Like pumpkin pie in cookie form, they make the perfect fall treat.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 18 cookies

Ingredients

    • Pumpkin Cookies:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • ½ tsp baking soda
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
    • ½ cup light brown sugar
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 egg, at room temperature
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree

  • Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • Optional: Ground cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using a mixer.
  4. Add egg and vanilla extract, then mix in pumpkin puree until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Scoop 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie onto prepared baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. While cookies cool, make the frosting: In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. Beat until light and fluffy.
  9. Once cookies are completely cool, spread frosting on top. Dust with cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • Cookies must be completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Use canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) for best results.
  • Optional: Add chopped walnuts or pecans for texture.
