This versatile recipe can be enjoyed hot as a frothy latte or cold over ice, sweetened to taste with maple syrup or honey. Perfect for a cozy moment any time of the day.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain milk (oat milk recommended for a creamy, dairy-free option)
  • 1 to 3 teaspoons maple syrup or honey, to sweeten (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Steam or heat the milk: For a hot latte, steam the milk using a milk frother until warm and frothy. Alternatively, warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it is almost simmering, then whisk briefly until frothy.
  2. Prepare the spice mixture: In a heatproof mug, combine sweetener if using, vanilla extract, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and salt. Stir these dry and wet ingredients together.
  3. Combine steamed milk and spices: Pour the steamed milk (excluding the foam) into the mug with the spices and stir until fully combined. Add the foam on top and give it a gentle stir to unify flavors.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness: Sample the latte and add extra sweetener if desired for your preferred level of sweetness.
  5. Serve warm: Enjoy immediately while hot to savor its full flavors and warming effects.
  6. Prepare for iced latte: To make an iced version, heat 1/2 cup of milk or hot water until nearly simmering and whisk together with sweetener, vanilla extract (optional), turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and salt until spices dissolve.
  7. Assemble iced drink: Fill a large glass with ice and pour in the warm spiced milk mixture, followed by the remaining cold milk. Stir gently with a straw until combined.
  8. Adjust sweetness and serve cold: Taste and add more sweetener if needed. Serve immediately to enjoy a refreshing spicy iced latte.

Notes

  • Use oat milk or other plant-based milks for a dairy-free, vegan-friendly version.
  • Adjust spice quantities to suit your personal taste preferences.
  • Black pepper enhances turmeric absorption, so don’t skip it.
  • Maple syrup or honey can be omitted for a less sweet or vegan option (use maple syrup).
  • For best taste, prepare fresh and consume immediately, especially for hot servings.
