Delicious and vibrant Grilled Mahi-Mahi Fish Tacos featuring perfectly seasoned and grilled mahi-mahi, topped with a fresh mango-avocado slaw and creamy jalapeño sauce. Ideal for a quick and healthy meal that combines smoky, spicy, and tangy flavors in every bite.

  • Total Time: 38 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

For the Fish:

  • 1.5 lbs mahi-mahi fillets, boneless and skinless (approximately 4 6-oz fillets)
  • 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • Avocado oil for brushing

For the Jalapeño Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup plain full fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 lime, zested and juiced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, roughly chopped (seeds discarded for less heat)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 scallion, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

For the Slaw and Toppings:

  • 1 large ripe mango, diced
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage (or bagged coleslaw)
  • 1 large avocado, diced
  • 1 cup sweet corn (optional)
  • 1-2 limes, zested and juiced
  • Fresh parsley, roughly chopped (for garnish)
  • Flour tortillas

Instructions

  1. General Prep: Prepare all the ingredients by chopping and measuring accordingly. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 450ºF) and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Jalapeño Sauce: Combine Greek yogurt, lime zest and juice, chopped jalapeño (without seeds for mild heat), honey, smashed garlic cloves, scallion, and sea salt in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, then set the sauce aside to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Prepare the Slaw: Shred the purple cabbage and dice both the mango and avocado. Toss together in a bowl with the optional sweet corn, lime zest, and lime juice. Mix gently and set aside for serving.
  4. Dry and Season the Mahi-Mahi: Pat the mahi-mahi fillets dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture. In a small bowl, mix chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, and sea salt. Brush the fillets lightly with avocado oil and then rub the seasoning blend all over the fish evenly.
  5. Rest the Fish: Allow the seasoned fish to come to room temperature for about 15 minutes. This helps ensure even cooking when on the grill.
  6. Grill the Fish: Place the fillets diagonally on the preheated and oiled grill grates. Reduce heat to medium, close the grill lid, and cook for 2-4 minutes depending on thickness. Carefully try lifting the fillet; if it sticks, wait another 30 seconds before trying again. Flip the fillets and cook for another 2-4 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 140ºF.
  7. Rest and Chop the Fish: Transfer the cooked mahi-mahi to a cutting board and let it rest for 3-5 minutes. Then roughly chop into bite-sized pieces suitable for tacos.
  8. Assemble the Tacos: Place a scoop of the mango-avocado slaw in the center of each warmed flour tortilla. Top with chopped grilled mahi-mahi.
  9. Serve: Drizzle with creamy jalapeño sauce, sprinkle with fresh parsley or cilantro, and offer lime wedges on the side for added brightness.

Notes

  • Discard jalapeño seeds for less heat or include them for extra spiciness.
  • Cooking times depend on fillet thickness; always check doneness with a thermometer.
  • Use avocado or canola oil for grill grates to avoid smoking and sticking.
  • The fish should reach an internal temperature of 140ºF for optimal texture and safety.
  • Optionally substitute purple cabbage with a bagged coleslaw mix for convenience.
  • Letting the fish rest at room temperature before grilling promotes even cooking.
