These Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a flavorful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich, made with sautéed peppers, onions, mushrooms, and seasoned ground beef topped with melted provolone cheese on soft slider buns. They are perfect for gatherings or a delicious, easy-to-make meal in about 35 minutes.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Vegetables & Meat

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium green pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 8 ounces Baby Bella or white mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic (divided)

Seasonings & Sauces

  • ½ teaspoon salt (for beef)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for beef)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (for garlic butter)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for garlic butter)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Bread & Cheese

  • 12 slider buns
  • 12 slices provolone cheese

Butter Mixture

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (for garlic butter)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Vegetables: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced green pepper, onion, and mushrooms, and cook until softened. Remove the cooked vegetable mixture from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef, 2 teaspoons minced garlic, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Brown the beef, stirring occasionally, until cooked through and no longer pink.
  3. Make the Sauce: Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour over the cooked ground beef, stirring to coat the meat evenly. Gradually stir in ½ cup beef broth, continuing to cook and stir for about 5 minutes until a gravy-like sauce forms.
  4. Preheat Oven and Arrange Sliders: Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a half baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the bottoms of the 12 slider buns on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  5. Assemble Sliders: Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the ground beef mixture onto each bun bottom. Top each with roughly ¼ cup of the sautéed vegetable mixture and a slice of provolone cheese. Place the top buns over the cheese slices.
  6. Prepare Garlic Butter: Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Whisk in 1 teaspoon minced garlic, ¼ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon dried parsley until combined.
  7. Brush Sliders with Garlic Butter: Using a pastry or basting brush, generously coat the tops of the slider buns with the garlic butter glaze.
  8. Bake: Place the sliders in the preheated oven and bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the tops of the buns are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Serve: Remove from oven and let the sliders cool for 1-2 minutes before serving to allow the cheese to set slightly and flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the vegetable mixture.
  • Use whole wheat slider buns for a healthier option.
  • To make ahead, assemble sliders and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • If you prefer, substitute provolone with mozzarella or American cheese slices.
