Ingredients
Meat Layer
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 packets taco seasoning mix
- 3/4 cup water
Cream Cheese Layer
- 16 ounces sour cream
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
Toppings
- 1 1/2 cups shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1 can black olives (2.25 ounces), drained
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium heat and crumble in the ground beef. Cook, breaking up large chunks with a wooden spoon, until fully browned and no pink remains.
- Cook with Seasoning: Drain excess fat from the beef. Stir in one packet of taco seasoning mix and ¾ cup water. Simmer over medium heat until most of the water has evaporated and the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, softened cream cheese, and the second packet of taco seasoning mix. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well combined.
- Spread Cream Cheese Layer: Pour the sour cream and cream cheese mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish. Spread it out evenly to form the first layer of the dip.
- Add Ground Beef Layer: Spoon the seasoned ground beef evenly over the cream cheese layer and spread to cover the surface.
- Add Cheese Layer: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the ground beef layer.
- Add Fresh Toppings: Top the shredded cheddar cheese with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and drained black olives to finish off the dip with fresh, colorful layers.
Notes
- For best flavor, use freshly prepared taco seasoning or your favorite brand.
- Drain excess grease from the cooked beef to keep the dip from becoming oily.
- Try adding jalapeños or green onions for extra spice and crunch.
- Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks.
- This dip can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated; add fresh toppings just before serving.
