This Hot Honey Baked Feta recipe combines creamy, tangy feta cheese with a sweet and spicy hot honey glaze, baked to bubbling perfection and garnished with fresh thyme and optional pink peppercorns. It's a quick, crowd-pleasing appetizer that's perfect for serving with crackers or pita chips.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 5 servings

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 8 ounces feta cheese

For Baking

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons hot honey

For Garnish

  • Fresh thyme, for garnish
  • Pink peppercorns, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the feta cheese.
  2. Prepare the Feta: Pat the feta cheese dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help it bake evenly and develop a nice texture.
  3. Olive Oil Drizzle: Place the dried feta in a baking dish or small cast iron pan. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over the top to infuse flavor and aid in browning.
  4. Bake the Feta: Bake the feta at 400°F for 8-10 minutes until it softens and starts to bubble slightly.
  5. Add Hot Honey and Broil: Remove the feta from the oven and drizzle 3 tablespoons of hot honey over it. Set the oven broiler to high and place the feta on the top rack. Broil for 5-6 minutes or until the top starts to brown and caramelize, creating a deliciously spicy-sweet crust.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Take the baked feta out of the oven. Garnish with fresh thyme and sprinkle pink peppercorns if using. Serve warm with crackers or pita chips for dipping and enjoy!

Notes

  • Be sure to pat the feta dry to prevent it from releasing too much water when baked, which can dilute the flavors.
  • The hot honey can be homemade by infusing honey with chili flakes or store-bought for convenience.
  • If you don't have a broiler, you can bake a bit longer at 400°F to achieve browning but watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
  • Pink peppercorns add a colorful, mild peppery note but are optional.
