These Jalapeño Popper Puffs are a deliciously cheesy and spicy appetizer featuring a creamy jalapeño filling wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfectly baked until golden and brushed with seasoned butter, they offer a flavorful bite-sized treat ideal for parties or snacks.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese (freshly shredded)
  • 2 jalapeños (minced and seeded)
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Other

  • 2 teaspoons taco seasoning (divided, 1 tsp for filling, 1 tsp for butter)
  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for easy cleanup and non-stick baking.
  2. Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, freshly shredded sharp cheddar, minced and seeded jalapeños, 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning, and hot sauce. Stir well until all ingredients are fully blended into a smooth, spicy cheese mixture.
  3. Assemble the puffs: Unroll the refrigerated crescent rolls on a clean surface, working with one triangle at a time. Spoon about 1 heaping tablespoon of the cream cheese filling into the wide end of each crescent triangle. Carefully roll the dough starting from the wide end toward the tip, encasing the filling completely.
  4. Arrange and bake: Place the rolled crescent puffs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the filling and rolling process until all crescent rolls and filling are used. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and lightly browned.
  5. Butter baste: While the puffs bake, whisk together the melted unsalted butter and the remaining 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning. When the rolls come out of the oven, lightly baste the tops with the seasoned butter for added flavor and shine. Serve the popper puffs immediately while hot.
  6. Enjoy and share feedback: If you try this recipe, be sure to leave a comment or rating sharing how much you loved these cheesy, spicy puffs and any variations you tried!

Notes

  • For less heat, reduce the amount of jalapeños or omit the seeds completely.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened for easier mixing.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor, as the crescent rolls may soften if left out too long.
  • Can be reheated gently in the oven to maintain crispiness.
  • Perfect appetizer for parties, game days, or casual gatherings.
