Instructions
- Cook the Meat: In a 10-12 inch skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until no longer pink.
- Drain Excess Grease: Remove the cooked meat if needed to drain excess grease, then return the meat to the skillet.
- Sauté Garlic: Reduce heat to medium, add the minced garlic, and cook for about one minute until fragrant.
- Add Noodles and Sauce: Stir in the broken lasagna noodles, pasta sauce, water, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
- Bring to Boil: Cover the skillet with a lid and heat until the sauce reaches a low boil.
- Simmer Noodles: Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 to 35 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent noodles from sticking and ensuring they soften.
- Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper until blended.
- Add Cheese Dollops: Once noodles are tender and sauce has thickened, spoon the ricotta mixture evenly over the top of the lasagna in dollops.
- Sprinkle Mozzarella: Scatter the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the ricotta dollops.
- Melt Cheese: Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and cook until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle freshly minced basil over the top and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese when possible for better melting and flavor.
- Stir frequently during simmering to prevent noodles from sticking to the skillet bottom.
- If you prefer, substitute ricotta cheese with pureed cottage cheese as a lighter option.
- Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms along with the meat for added nutrition.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste; you can add extra Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper for heat.
