This refreshing Passion Fruit Iced Tea recipe combines the boldness of black tea with the tropical sweetness of passion fruit, creating a vibrant and thirst-quenching beverage perfect for warm days. Sweetened with vegan sugar and served over ice, this iced tea offers a delightful balance of tart and sweet flavors that will liven up any occasion.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 cups (approximately 950 mL)

Ingredients

Tea Base

  • 3 cups water, divided
  • 3 black tea bags

Sweetener

  • 1/4 cup vegan granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

Fruit

  • 3/4 cup passion fruit pulp (from about 4-5 fruits)

Serving

  • Ice
  • Mint sprig, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water and Steep Tea: Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil in a pot or kettle, then remove from heat. Immediately add the 3 black tea bags to the hot water and let them steep for 3-4 minutes to extract a rich, robust flavor.
  2. Sweeten the Tea: Remove the tea bags carefully, then add 1/4 cup of vegan granulated sugar to the hot tea. Whisk thoroughly until the sugar is fully dissolved, ensuring a smooth, sweet base.
  3. Cool the Tea and Add Passion Fruit: Pour in the remaining 1 1/2 cups of room-temperature water to cool the tea down. Stir in the 3/4 cup of passion fruit pulp, mixing well to combine the tangy tropical flavor throughout the tea.
  4. Serve with Ice and Garnish: Fill serving glasses with ice cubes, pour the passion fruit tea over the ice to chill it immediately, and optionally garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig for an aromatic finishing touch. Serve immediately for best freshness.

Notes

  • Adjust the sugar amount to your preferred sweetness level.
  • For a stronger tea flavor, steep the tea bags a little longer but avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness.
  • Fresh passion fruit pulp can be substituted with store-bought passion fruit puree if fresh fruit is unavailable.
  • Garnishing with mint is optional but adds a refreshing aroma and visual appeal.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the best taste and freshness.
