Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- Oil for frying (about ½-inch depth in skillet)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 sliced green bell pepper
- 1 sliced onion
- ½ pound thinly sliced sirloin steak
- ½ cup Monterey Jack cheese
- ½ cup beef broth
- ¼ cup steak sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 to 8 egg roll wrappers
Instructions
- Heat the oil: In a medium-sized skillet, pour about ½-inch of oil and heat it to 350 °F (175 °C) to prepare for frying the egg rolls.
- Sauté vegetables and cook steak: In a separate large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced green bell pepper and onion, cooking until they are almost tender. Push the veggies to one side of the skillet and add the thinly sliced sirloin steak to the center. Cook the steak until it is no longer pink.
- Add cheese and sauce mixture: Stir in ½ cup Monterey Jack cheese, ½ cup beef broth, ¼ cup steak sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes until the cheese melts and the flavors combine. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.
- Assemble the egg rolls: Place a scoop of the cooled meat and vegetable filling in the center of each egg roll wrapper. Optionally, add additional cheese on top of the filling. Fold and seal the edges of each wrapper using a bit of water to hold the rolls tightly closed.
- Fry the egg rolls: Carefully place the prepared egg rolls into the hot oil and fry them for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Notes
- Ensure the filling is cooled before wrapping to prevent the wrappers from becoming soggy or tearing.
- Maintain the oil temperature at 350 °F to achieve a crispy exterior without absorbing excess oil.
- Use thinly sliced sirloin for quick and even cooking.
- Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces such as ranch, ketchup, or spicy mustard.
- Egg roll wrappers can be found in most grocery stores near the refrigerated section.
