These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are a delicious mini sandwich featuring tender roast beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese on soft Hawaiian rolls. Perfect for game day, parties, or a quick and satisfying meal, these sliders combine classic Philly flavors with easy preparation and baking for a melty, savory delight in every bite.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Rolls and Cheese

  • 1 pack Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for sautéing vegetables)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking meat and brushing top)

Vegetable Layer

  • 1/2 medium sweet onion, diced
  • 1/2 medium bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Meat Layer

  • 8 ounces roast beef lunch meat, roughly diced into 1 inch pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepping The Buns And Cheese: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil and lightly spray with cooking oil. Slice the Hawaiian roll horizontally into two large sections, separating the tops from the bottoms. Place the bottom half on the prepared sheet pan and layer about half of the provolone cheese slices evenly over the bottom buns. This layer of cheese prevents the buns from becoming soggy.
  2. Making The Pepper Onion Layer: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onions and sauté for about 3 minutes until they begin to soften, stirring frequently. Add the diced bell pepper, paprika, and salt to the skillet. Continue cooking for another 2 minutes, stirring often until the peppers soften slightly. Evenly spread this pepper and onion mixture over the cheese-covered bottom half of the rolls.
  3. Making The Meat Layer: In the same skillet, melt another tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Break apart the roast beef chunks as needed and add them to the pan. Season with 1/2 teaspoon paprika and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, stirring well to combine. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently to warm and slightly crisp the beef. Spread this roast beef mixture evenly over the pepper and onion layer on the rolls.
  4. Baking The Sliders: Top the beef layer with the remaining provolone cheese slices. Place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls over the cheese layer. Brush the tops with melted butter to achieve a golden crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 16 minutes, until the cheese is melted, and the tops are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and serve immediately for the best melty, savory experience.

Notes

  • Using Hawaiian rolls adds a slight sweetness that complements the savory fillings perfectly.
  • Butter brushing on the tops before baking creates a deliciously golden and crisp crust.
  • Adjust the paprika quantity to taste for mild or smoky heat.
  • For a spicier twist, add sliced jalapeños with the peppers and onions.
  • These sliders are best served fresh out of the oven to enjoy the melted cheese and warm fillings.
