Ingredients
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
Tortillas and Cheese
- 10 flour tortillas, taco sized
- 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Olive oil spray or avocado oil spray, for misting
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and lightly mist it with a small amount of oil to prevent sticking and promote crisping.
- Cook Meat and Onions: Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, then add the ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to crumble the meat evenly as it cooks until no longer pink. Drain excess grease if necessary. Stir in 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and cook for another 3 minutes to incorporate the flavors, then remove from heat.
- Assemble Tacos: Lay out your 10 flour tortillas. Divide the cooked taco meat evenly, placing about 4 tablespoons on each tortilla. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the meat. Fold each tortilla in half to form a taco and arrange them on the prepared sheet pan.
- Mist and Bake: Lightly mist the tacos with olive or avocado oil spray to ensure they become nice and crispy. Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
- Flip and Finish Baking: After 20 minutes, carefully flip each taco and mist the exposed side again with oil spray. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the tacos are golden and crispy on both sides.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately with your favorite taco toppings such as salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or cilantro.
Notes
- Ground turkey can be used instead of beef for a leaner option.
- Use corn tortillas for a gluten-free alternative if desired.
- Customize the cheese type to your preference, like Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend.
- Ensure to drain excess grease after cooking meat to avoid soggy tacos.
- For extra crispiness, be sure to mist the tortillas with oil before baking and after flipping.
