Ingredients
Frying Ingredients
- ½ cup avocado oil
- 1 medium shallot, thinly sliced (~½ cup)
Dip Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 bunch green onion, diced (~8-10 green onions)
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Fry Shallots: Place a small saucepan over medium heat and add the avocado oil and thinly sliced shallots. Fry the shallots for 3-4 minutes or until they turn crispy and golden brown, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Prepare Flavor Mix: While the shallots are frying, add the diced green onions, paprika, and dried thyme to a heat-safe bowl. Set this mixture aside for the crispy shallot oil to be added later.
- Combine Shallots and Oil: Once the shallots are crispy, carefully pour the oil along with the fried shallots into the green onion and spice mixture. Set aside to infuse the flavors.
- Mix Base Ingredients: In a large bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, kosher salt, and cracked black pepper. Using a hand mixer, blend these ingredients until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency with no lumps.
- Incorporate Shallot Mixture: Pour the shallot and oil mixture into the cream cheese base. Gently fold and cream everything together to evenly distribute the crispy shallots and the infused oil throughout the dip.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to firm up slightly. Serve chilled with your favorite chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
Notes
- To make the shallots extra crispy, fry them until golden brown but be careful not to burn them as they can become bitter.
- You can substitute avocado oil with other neutral oils like canola or vegetable oil if desired.
- This dip can be made a day ahead for enhanced flavor; just be sure to store it covered in the refrigerator.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the dip base.
- Serve with tortilla chips, pita bread, or fresh vegetables such as carrots and cucumber for a delicious appetizer.
