These Spicy Shrimp Patties are a flavorful and easy-to-make appetizer or main dish, perfectly cooked in an air fryer for a crispy, golden finish without the extra oil. Made with wild-caught shrimp, fresh herbs, and a touch of heat from jalapeno and hot sauce, they offer a deliciously spicy and satisfying bite. Ideal for a quick dinner or party snack, served best with lime wedges and avocado corn salsa.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp (wild-caught, peeled & deveined, tail removed)
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil (or any oil of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup red onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup cilantro (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup green onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 small jalapeno (seeded & finely chopped)
  • 1 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs (divided)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons mayo
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic sugar
  • salt & pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Shrimp: Using a food processor, pulse 1 lb of peeled and deveined shrimp until finely chopped. Transfer the chopped shrimp to a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup of finely chopped red bell pepper and sauté for 3 minutes until softened. Add 1 clove of finely chopped garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Mix the Patty Ingredients: While the bell pepper mixture cools, preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Add to the shrimp in the bowl the following: 1/4 cup red onion, 1/4 cup cilantro, 1/4 cup green onion, 1/2 small jalapeno (seeded and finely chopped), 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs, 1 egg, 3 tablespoons mayo, 1 1/2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce, 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon organic sugar, salt, and pepper to taste. Also add the sautéed bell pepper and garlic mixture. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Form and Coat Patties: Using your hands, shape the shrimp mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Coat each patty evenly with the remaining 1 cup of Panko breadcrumbs for a crispy crust.
  5. Air Fry the Patties: Lightly grease the air fryer basket or pan with avocado oil to prevent sticking. Place the shrimp patties inside the air fryer, being careful not to overcrowd them. Cook at 400°F for 10 minutes, flipping the patties halfway through to ensure even cooking and browning.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the patties from the air fryer and serve immediately with lime wedges and your favorite sides such as avocado corn salsa. Enjoy the spicy, crispy shrimp patties while hot!

Notes

  • For an extra spicy kick, add more jalapeno or increase the hot pepper sauce.
  • Ensure patties are not overcrowded in the air fryer for even cooking and crispiness.
  • You can substitute Panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
  • If you do not have an air fryer, these patties can be pan-fried in a skillet over medium heat with oil until golden and cooked through.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor in the patties and serving garnish.
