This Spicy Feta Dip, also known as tirokafteri, is a quick and delicious Greek appetizer made with creamy whipped feta cheese, roasted red peppers, and a touch of heat from red pepper flakes. Ready in just 10 minutes, this versatile dip pairs perfectly with veggies, pita bread, or as a flavorful addition to gyros.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 32 ounces (about 4 cups)

Ingredients

Dip Ingredients

  • 1 cup roasted red peppers, large dice
  • 16 ounces feta cheese, cut into large chunks
  • ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt (whole milk recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the roasted red peppers, feta cheese, Greek yogurt, and granulated sugar into the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Pulse Mixture: Pulse the mixture for 10-15 seconds to roughly combine all ingredients.
  3. Add Olive Oil: Turn the food processor on and slowly pour in the extra virgin olive oil while it is running to help emulsify and create a smooth, creamy texture.
  4. Blend Until Smooth: Continue blending until the dip is smooth and creamy in consistency.
  5. Chill and Add Spice: Transfer the dip into a bowl, gently stir in the red pepper flakes if using, cover, and refrigerate for one hour to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to chill.
  6. Serve: Serve the spicy feta dip with fresh vegetables, pita bread, or crackers. It also makes a tasty addition to gyros or wraps.

Notes

  • For a milder dip, omit or reduce the red pepper flakes.
  • The dip can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use whole milk Greek yogurt for best creaminess; low-fat options may alter texture.
  • Roasted red peppers can be homemade or store-bought jarred peppers drained well.
  • Adjust sugar amount based on personal taste to balance the feta’s saltiness.
