3.9 from 7 reviews

This Tahini Hot Chocolate is a rich, creamy, and comforting drink that combines the nutty flavor of tahini with decadent cocoa, naturally sweetened with date and a touch of maple syrup or honey. Enhanced with coconut milk powder and collagen peptides for added creaminess and protein, this cozy beverage is perfect for a quick 5-minute treat. It can be easily made vegan by omitting animal-based ingredients and can be enjoyed plain or topped with coconut whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an indulgent finish.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbsp tahini
  • 1 pitted medjool date (or 2 tsp coconut sugar, or other sweetener of choice)
  • 1/2 tsp maple syrup or honey (if not vegan)
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp collagen peptides (adds creaminess + protein; omit if vegan)
  • 2 Tbsp coconut milk powder (or omit and substitute hot water with warmed milk of choice)
  • 1 ¼ cup very hot water (or milk of choice)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Coconut whipped cream
  • Drizzle of tahini
  • Dusting of cocoa powder
  • Shaved dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients including cocoa powder, tahini, date, maple syrup or honey, sea salt, ground cinnamon, collagen peptides, coconut milk powder, and very hot water or milk. If you do not have a high-speed blender, prepare to heat on the stovetop instead and skip the date or substitute sweetener accordingly.
  2. Blend Mixture: Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender with a vented lid to allow steam to escape. Blend until the mixture is creamy and smooth. If using stovetop, blend ingredients with cold water/milk first, then gently heat, omitting the date and using additional sweetener.
  3. Adjust Flavor: Taste the hot chocolate and adjust sweetness, spice, or creaminess by adding more honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, cocoa powder, coconut milk powder, or tahini as preferred. Blend or stir again to incorporate the adjustments.
  4. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into a cup. Enjoy as is or top with coconut whipped cream, a drizzle of tahini, a dusting of cocoa powder, and/or shaved dark chocolate curls created with a vegetable peeler.
  5. Store Leftovers: If you have any leftovers, pour them into a sealed container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop gently before serving again.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, omit collagen peptides and honey, and replace with maple syrup or another plant-based sweetener.
  • If you don’t have a blender, heating on the stovetop works but omit the date for best results or use liquid sweetener instead.
  • Use coconut milk powder to achieve a richer, creamier texture, or substitute with warmed milk of your choice.
  • Be careful when blending hot liquids; use a vented lid to prevent pressure build-up.
  • The drink is best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated and reheated within 3 days.
