Ingredients
Guacamole Ingredients
- 3 Large Haas Avocados, pitted and scooped
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ cup chopped onions
- 1-2 cloves garlic, grated
- 1 serrano pepper, seeded and minced (or jalapeño)
- 1 Roma tomato, seeded and chopped
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
- Warm tortilla chips, for serving
Instructions
- Toss: Add the scooped avocados to a bowl. Pour the fresh lime juice over the avocados, toss gently to combine, and allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes. While waiting, prepare the chopped onions, grated garlic, minced serrano pepper, chopped Roma tomatoes, and chopped cilantro.
- Smash: Using a fork, press and smash the avocados to your preferred texture. You can mash completely smooth or leave some chunks for a more rustic guacamole. Then, season the mashed avocado with kosher salt and ground cumin, mixing evenly.
- Combine Guacamole: Add the prepared onions, garlic, serrano pepper, tomatoes, and cilantro into the bowl with the mashed avocado. Gently fold these ingredients into the avocado mixture using a fork, ensuring they are incorporated without mashing further. Taste the guacamole with a tortilla chip and adjust seasoning by adding more lime juice or salt if needed.
- Rest: Cover the guacamole and let it sit at room temperature for 1 hour before serving. This resting period allows the flavors to meld together for the best taste.
Notes
- Use ripe Haas avocados for the creamiest and richest flavor.
- Adjust the amount of serrano pepper or jalapeño to manage the spice level according to your preference.
- Resting the guacamole for 1 hour enhances flavor but if short on time, it can be served immediately.
- If storing leftovers, cover tightly with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to minimize browning and refrigerate.
- Fresh lime juice helps to prevent the avocados from turning brown quickly.
