These Vegan Apple Cinnamon Rolls combine the cozy flavors of apple pie with soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls. Made with a buttery brioche-style dough and topped with a luscious vegan cream cheese frosting, they're perfect for fall, Thanksgiving, or anytime you want a comforting sweet treat.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls

Ingredients

  • Dough:
  • 4 ¼ cups (530g) bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cups (315g) warm dairy-free milk
  • ½ cup (115g) vegan butter, room temperature
  • 3 tbsp (40g) granulated sugar, brown or coconut sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (if using unsalted butter)
  • Apple Cinnamon Filling:
  • ⅔ cup (125g) packed brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • ⅓ cup (75g) vegan butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium apples (~360g), finely chopped
  • Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • ⅔ cup (160g) vegan cream cheese, room temperature
  • ¼ cup (55g) vegan butter, room temperature
  • 1–2 cups (100g–200g) powdered sugar, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine all dough ingredients. Mix and knead for at least 5 minutes until a smooth, tacky dough forms. Adjust with more milk or flour if needed.
  2. Place the dough in a clean bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to form a smooth paste. Set aside.
  4. Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  5. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a 14×17-inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling over the dough and sprinkle with chopped apples.
  6. Starting from the long side, roll the dough into a log. Slice into 12 rolls using a sharp knife or floss.
  7. Arrange the rolls in the prepared pan. Cover and let rise again for 1 hour, or until puffy.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and springy when gently pressed.
  9. For the frosting, mix all frosting ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Adjust sweetness and texture as needed.
  10. Let the rolls cool, then spread the cream cheese frosting over the top. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use spreadable vegan margarine or coconut oil in place of vegan butter, but adjust milk and salt accordingly.
  • For active dry yeast, proof it in warm milk with a pinch of sugar before using.
  • For a gooey texture, pour ½ cup warm vegan heavy cream over rolls before baking.
  • If cream cheese is unavailable, make vanilla buttercream or use maple syrup glaze instead.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temp for 1–2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat before serving.
