Vietnamese Coffee Marble Cookies combine classic cookie dough with rich espresso and a touch of sweetened condensed milk to create a unique marbled treat with a perfect balance of buttery sweetness and bold coffee flavor.

  • Total Time: 29 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cookies

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ⅔ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened, room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (plus ½ cup for rolling)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp espresso powder
  • 1 tbsp condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) and prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 ⅔ cups of all purpose flour, ½ tsp baking powder, ½ tsp baking soda, and ¼ tsp salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, cream ½ cup softened unsalted butter with 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Egg and Vanilla: Mix in 1 egg and 2 tsp vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Combine Dry and Wet Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined to form the base cookie dough.
  6. Divide Dough and Flavor: Scoop two-thirds of the dough into a separate bowl and mix in 2 tbsp espresso powder until fully incorporated and dough turns brown. To the remaining one-third dough, add 1 tbsp condensed milk and mix until combined.
  7. Create Marble Dough Balls: Take 2 tbsp of espresso dough and 1 tbsp of condensed milk dough, combine gently into a single dough ball weighing approximately 50 grams.
  8. Coat in Sugar: Roll each dough ball in ½ cup granulated sugar until coated, then place onto the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  10. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use instant espresso powder for best coffee flavor; adjust espresso powder quantity for a stronger or milder coffee taste.
  • Ensure butter is softened but not melted for optimal texture.
  • Cookie dough balls should weigh about 50 grams each to ensure even baking.
  • Rolling dough balls in sugar adds a sweet crunch and a slight crackle on the cookie surface.
  • Storage: Keep cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
